On Thursday, UT announced the $8.9-million raise for its volleyball team.
The money was part of the $7.9 billion in funding that UT received from the NCAA to bring its basketball program to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 25 years.
The UT basketball program will play for the Big 12 Championship next season.
UT received $2.3 million from the Big Ten for the football program.
In addition to the money from the bowl fund, the Big 10 will get $1 million for its basketball tournament and $1 billion from the PAC-12 for the men’s basketball tournament.
UT’s men’s volleyball team received $1,250,000 from the state of Texas and $750,000 will go to the UT Foundation to fund volleyball scholarships.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams will also each receive $500,000 for the 2018-19 academic year.
The men’s team also received $100,000 to help pay for scholarships for players who have fallen on hard times.
The bowl fund also will provide an additional $2 million in cash and $2,000 per student-athlete to the athletics department and the university’s athletic departments to support student-achievement and athletic success in the community.
The athletic department received $500 million from a previous round of funding that included a $1-billion investment by the Big West Conference in 2021.
The Big 12 received $250 million in the Big East’s expansion of its conference, which includes Texas and Oklahoma.
The money from this round of Big 12 money will go toward expanding athletic scholarships, the hiring of coaches, facilities upgrades and additional student-access programs.
