India has been crowned the first Asian country to win the gold medal in the men’s volleyball at the Commonwealth Games, defeating Japan 4-1.
The world champion India defeated Japan 5-1 in a final that began on Thursday evening.
India’s silver medal-winning squad, consisting of eight Indian players, included five players from the women’s team.
The men’s squad included two players from India and two from Japan.
The medal ceremony was held at the Olympic Stadium in Colombo.
The men’s gold medal-winner, Indian skipper Pradeep Singh Suryavanshi, scored the opening goal.
The Indian team was led by skipper Prakash Kumar Singh, who bagged his sixth win of the season.
India’s first world silver medal in four years.
India has won nine medals in the women and seven in the overall men’s competition.
The top two finishers in each event have gone on to the final.
