A5 volleyball’s Premier Women’s Player of the Year has been crowned the new captain of the Brazilian women’s national team, according to the country’s soccer federation.
Ricardo “Ric” Santos will become the first woman to captain the national team in its 20th consecutive year.
Santos, the head coach of Brazil’s women’s side, has led the team to the World Championships for the first time in its history, finishing fourth at the last two tournaments.
Her success with the women’s team has been a major factor in the recent increase in interest in women’s soccer in Brazil.
She has also won the title of Brazil Intermediacional’s Coach of the Month for January.
A5’s Women’s coach Ricardo Santos was named the first female coach of the national squad for the 20th time in her career.
A6’s head coach, Dario Avila, will be the next head coach after her current position ended.
The new coach of A6 is not yet confirmed, as Santos has yet to be formally announced as the new head coach.
